This collection contains stool sample backups (225 maternal, 135 infant samples) from the ABERRANT study (Antibiotic-induced disruption of the maternal and infant microbiome and adverse health outcomes). ABERRANT is a prospective birth cohort of 430 mother–infant pairs recruited in Fribourg, Switzerland. Using shotgun metagenomic sequencing, the study investigates how intrapartum and early-life antibiotic exposure affects the maternal intestinal and breast milk microbiome and the infant nasal, oral and intestinal microbiome, including the development and persistence of antibiotic resistance genes and clinical outcomes (infections, eczema, allergic sensitisation, and growth).
